The largest room is named ‘Koelschip’, which literally translates as ‘cooling ship’, named after its historical role in the brewing process. It is located on the brewery’s top floor, 30 metres above ground level. Until the 1960s, hot beer wort was cooled here, simply by opening the many windows. Today, the impressive room with its beautiful copper-plated bar can host a reception for 250 people, or a sit-down dinner for 120. It has a spacious balcony that offers a breathtaking view of the heart of Amsterdam.
