Keeping it in the family

The Pub Succession initiative started with a 155 year old family pub on an island off the west coast of Ireland. After 43 years serving the Achill community, owner Josie McLoughlin is officially retiring and with no one to take over, we launched a worldwide recruitment campaign across 123 countries to find one McLoughlin to carry on the legacy. But we know this is just one pub.

Research shows us that 84% of family members don’t want to take on the family pub. As a family we business ourselves, we know the importance of keeping it in the family, So we’ve launched this online tool to help other retiring publicans find their successor too, someone who is as passionate about keeping the family name above the door as they are. The only catch? They’ve got to have the same surname!
